Decoding the nuclear forces allowed us to understand the stars and the building blocks of matter. Because these basic laws of physics are now well-understood, technological predictions for the next century are highly reliable.

By the year 2100, humanity will transition from simply observing nature to actively mastering it. We are moving toward becoming a planetary civilization, which is a society that can harness the energy and resources of its entire planet. Through the advancement of computers, biotechnology, and nanotechnology, we will gain abilities that once seemed impossible. Computers will eventually read thoughts to move objects, biotechnology will allow for longer life spans, and nanotechnology will enable us to create materials almost out of nothing.

Despite these massive technological leaps, human nature remains largely unchanged from that of our ancient ancestors. This concept is known as the Cave Man Principle, which suggests that whenever modern technology conflicts with our primitive desires, our ancient instincts win. This explains why the paperless office never happened, as humans still want physical proof of their work. It also explains why we still prefer face-to-face meetings and live entertainment over virtual versions. We are social creatures who rely on body language and physical presence to build trust.

Even as we advance, we will continue to value social networking and physical experiences because these traits were essential for survival for thousands of years. The future will be a constant competition between high-tech convenience and the human need for physical touch and social bonding. The rapid growth of science acts as a powerful tool that can either build a prosperous global society or be used for destruction. The challenge for the next century is to use our increasing knowledge with wisdom, ensuring that our ancient instincts do not overwhelm our newfound power.
